Matlwang Village was established in 1800 on approximately 17,556 hectares of land west of Potchefstroom in North West Province, South Africa. Located along the N12 highway between Potchefstroom and Stilfontein, our community thrived until the apartheid era, when most residents were forcefully removed and resettled elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Justice prevailed in 1996 when our land was restored through South Africa’s land restitution process. In 2007, we formalized our community ownership by registering the Barolong Boo Modiboa (Ba Matlwang) Communal Property Association (Registration No: CPA\/07\/0982\/A) under the Communal Property Act of 1996.<\/p>\n

As a legal entity, we have the right to secure, hold, and manage our land on behalf of our members who were dispossessed of their ancestral territory. We operate according to our Constitution, policies, and the customary laws and values of the Barolong Boo Modiboa people, while upholding the principles of equity and the rights of women and youth as enshrined in the Constitution of South Africa.<\/p>\n
